Abstract

The city of La Plata extends over ten basins and streams that flow towards the Río de la Plata. Throughout the urban growth process, the natural support was not considered in terms of basin logic; its streams were transformed, and its plains were occupied. As a consequence of the natural environment conditions and the city's horizontal growth, since the 1970s, over a hundred and fifty floods due to precipitation have been recorded, with the 2013 one being the most devastating, resulting in 89 official deaths. A decade after the disaster, urban growth continues to advance. In relation to this, the objective of this work is to investigate - identify, analyze, and compare - the process of urban occupation growth in flood-prone areas of the basins of the City of La Plata, ten years after the disaster of April 2013.
