Storytelling: a tool for designing emancipated housing visualizations

The teaching experience described took place in the subject Drawing 3 of the Bachelor’s Degree of Architecture at the University of Alicante. Its aim was to explore the use of storytelling for the creation of visualizations of contemporary single-family houses. Through this methodology, students moved away from the passivity of objective representation to construct personal narratives that incorporated atmospheres, experiences, or alternative perspectives, fostering critical reflection on drawing beyond its representational function. The subject was divided into two phases: first, students modelled and represented the assigned house; later, they reinterpreted their perception through rendering and digital retouching techniques, adding speculative layers. This approach opened a debate on the potential of graphic expression as a transformative and pedagogical tool
