Learning activities for practical sessions about construction in architecture

Abstract

At present there are numerous alternatives for practical-professional learning at the university. Choosing the best set of activities for a specific course is a crucial multi-criteria complex problem, which depends on factors related to these alternatives, the parties involved and their context. This article aims to carry out a critical review of the literature on these alternatives to improve a specific course on architecture and its construction. 264 multidisciplinary studies were consulted from the Web of Science database. This review main results are: (a) a classification of practical alternatives applicable to the case study and (b) a list of indicators to evaluate these alternatives. Consequently, a filtered and intentional repository is generated, according to: (1) the teaching contents, (2) Bloom's taxonomy and (3) the appropriate learning method for each case. Future research plans to develop a tool to analyze and optimize alternatives.

Oriol Pons Valladares, UPC, Barcelona Tech

Oriol Pons has been an architect since 2004, professor of Architectural Technology at ETSAB, UPC since 2008 and doctor since 2009. His professional experience as an architect, for example, in the construction of Barcelona’s Basilica Sagrada Familia (2013-17) and in the Precast company Planas (2004-8 and 2011-12), is strongly related to his research projects: sustainability and new technologies in architecture. He is an expert in educational, off-site and post-disaster architecture as well as in construction using concrete and recycled materials. He has led and participated in competitive projects on these areas of expertise at the UPC since 2009 and at the iMat Research Center (2008-11), being the author of several patents and presenting the results in numerous conferences, publications and patents.
