In the context of the School of Architecture of the Catholic University of Chile (EARQ UC), two of the design tools that are given special emphasis, developing them in both practical and theoretical first-year subjects, are observation and representation. Following a long teaching tradition, and given the recognized importance for subsequent professional practice, students are from the beginning introduced to the acquisition of these tools that they will use throughout their entire career. The objective of this communication is to show the path taken by the first-year teaching team of the EARQ UC to ensure that the newly admitted students in a pandemic situation acquired these tools with which this School and the professionals who graduated from it distinguish themselves.
