Abstract

The paper summarizes the methodology, processes and fundamentals of the Innovation Learning Project ‘Chalk Laboratory’ developed at the ETSAM. The experience has been based on Jorge Oteiza’s work and has been developed with the support of the Foundation Museum Jorge Oteiza. This pedagogical experience has been developed exclusively with 12x12x90 mm. chalk pieces which, along with material, instrumental and spatial restrictions, as if a grammar structure, was incorporating progressive degrees of complexity. The immediate contact with matter, the oscilation between action and reflection, the need for the most possible precise and concise verbalization and representation, as well as divergency in the solution of the exercises in the search for different or even contrary paths to solve problems were some of the guidelines for the course which is here documented by some relevant student’s work.
