Liquid learning: learning from uncertainty

Abstract

The uncertainty and indeterminacy and change are the prime material of any creative act. So is proven by the fantastic progress that radical pedagogies have achieved throughout the history of the architecture. Their success is determined, largely, by the willingness of students to embrace the uncertainty and start a path toward the unknown. However, in a society as wealthy as the current one, education has been scheduled in excess and creativity has been lethargic. The current educational systems are based on behavioral methodologies, focused on immediate results. This implies that prior to the application of any type of pedagogy, teachers must predispose pupils to embrace the indeterminacy and leave the safety net of the determinism and control, to value the process over the outcome, to get out of the comfort zone.
