Abstract

Project-based learning involves examining the work of others, traditionally focused on canonical works of architectural history that act as references for the workshops. However, these exceptional cases are often produced under unique circumstances, far removed from common architectural practice and alien to any direct student experience. The work developed in Architecture Workshop I, shows a different perspective by focusing on "normal houses", common and ordinary dwellings that students inhabit on a daily basis and that usually lack disciplinary recognition. Through scale replicas of interiors of their own homes, students observe and analyze details, processes and techniques, promoting hands-on learning and a deeper understanding of the architecture that builds cities. The exercise demonstrates that architectural knowledge resides not only in exceptional works, but also in the everyday and anonymous.
