Teaching buildings structural design in English

Abstract

This document exposes the experience of the implementation of the English group in the subjects "Structural design projects and technical specifications” of the qualifying Master and "Structural Design 3" of the fifth year of the degree in Fundamentals of Architecture at the School of Architecture of the Universitat Politècnica de València. It is a space with little incentive, neither by the governing bodies of the Polytechnic University of Valencia, nor by the management team of the School of Architecture. A scenario is presented in which the initiatives for the PDI to improve its linguistic competence by facilitating the use of the English language as a means of instruction are scarce. We speak of an environment in which without funding, without dissemination and without institutional support, the success of the implementation depends to a large extent on the will and effort of the involved professors.
